UK TO FORCE GHANAIANS TO PAY £3,000(GHC 9,000) TO APPLY VISA

Ghana has been put on a list of “High-Risk” African and Asian countries whose citizens would be required to deposit £3,000(GHC 9,000) cash bond when they apply for a British visa. The money would be forfeited if they overstay. Controversially, the move is targeted only at people from non-white Commonwealth countries as part of the Tory-led government’s resolve to drastically cut down on immigration levels. A similar attempt by Canada had to be abandoned amid protests that it was discriminatory. According to The Sunday Times, the scheme — aimed at preventing abuse of immigration rules — will initially cover Ghana,Nigeria,Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nigeria and India. “This countries have been designated ‘high-risk’ countries, from which visitors aged over 18 on six-month visit visas will be forced to pay the £3,000 from November 2013. M.anifest, the son of Tsatsu Tsikata , lawyer for the ruling National Democratic Congress in the ongoing election petition hearing at the Ghana Supreme Court, on Sunday walked away with two awards at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2013. M.anifest, after a spectacular performance with Hi-life legend Amandezeba on the night, swept the “Best Rapper of the Year” and the “Hip-Hop Song of the Year” awards. Tsatsu Tsikata Jr. as many have decided to call him, was born Kwame Ametepee Tsikata on November 20, 1982. He had his basic education at the University of Ghana Primary School, then moved to the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St Paul) in 2001 to attend Macalester College where he graduated in 2005 with a BA in economics. Second petitioner Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has mounted the witness box to lead evidence. Lead Counsel for the petitioners, Philip Addison gets ready to cross examine him. Bawumia tells the court he is in the witness box today because the declaration made by the second respondent, Electoral Commission in the 2012 elections cannot be supported by the primary evidence he has gathered as the chairman of the committee tasked to investigate alleged irregularities in the 2012 elections. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad,Iranian President Arrives In Ghana Today

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of the Islamic Republic of Iran will arrive at the Kotoka International Airport at 17hours GMT on Tuesday April 16, 2013 at the last leg of a three-nation African tour. Dr. Ahmadinejad, who is also Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), will be in Ghana for a two-day official visit starting with a meeting with President John Dramani Mahama in the Flagstaff House. The Iranian President has already visited Benin, and will be arriving in Ghana from Niger. President Ahmadinejad will co-chair a bilateral meeting between the two countries on Wednesday, lay a wreath at the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and address a public lecture at the Islamic University College in Accra.
